Teen Romance: Too Early to Say "I Do"?
Ah, sweet romance.
It seems like everywhere I look these days, someone is getting in a serious relationship and has finally found “the one.” Although this really doesn’t surprise me, what does always surprise me is how young the people getting into these relationships are.
Having graduated from a Wyoming high school only a few years ago, I am constantly amazed when I look back on all of my friends. Many of them were married or had children right after they graduated, and others are getting engaged to people they have dated since high school. Some who are still in junior high and high school constantly talk about their significant other on Facebook—not a day goes by that I don’t see at least one status update about someone’s relationship. Granted, I wasn’t immune to “puppy love” in high school either, but it never seemed serious enough to share with the entire world.
Between all of the “I love my baby!” status updates and pictures of engagement rings, I am left wondering if everyone has been lucky enough to find true love, or if they are in love with the idea of a serious relationship, and Facebook has made it easier for them to let everyone know. Is it a way of proving someone’s maturity? Is it a way to make others jealous? Or is it really real?
What do you think? Are you in a serious relationship that you think will last? Or do you think serious relationships are meant for later in life?
